Many years ago I used to walk the golf course but by and large my buddies like to ride. So it got me thinking, how much do new golf carts cost?
What I found is that different companies will give you varying amounts. What it all came down to, at least what it seemed to be upon my initial research is that it depended which company you called. The average new golf cart is approximately $9500. What might be worse is that some dealers don’t like to tell you the price outright. So you have to request a quote, etc…
So What Is A Golf Cart?
- Carry no more than two persons, including the driver
- Able to carry golf equipment
- Self propelled (why some call a golf car rather than a pull/push golf cart)
- Operate at a maximum speed of 15 mph and
- Sometimes called LSV for low speed vehicle or eGC for electric golf cart
- Weigh no more than 1,300 pounds while empty
- Have not less than three wheels in contact with the ground
Why Do I Have An Interest In Golf Carts?
So why am I looking at golf carts and why am I concerned about how much new golf carts might cost? Well my wife and I moved to a new to us community in the past year and a half and we noticed that more than a few of our neighbors have a golf cart or Polaris or something similar that they tool around with. In fact, they will drive it to the park a few blocks away, the post office in town, and some will drive to the ice cream shop about 6 miles away. Yes, I found our town has an agreement with the town next to us that lets us ride the golf carts around.
More than that though, a few golfers I see on a regular basis keep their golf carts at the local golf course. They even pay to have them stored and kept charged. So the thought process for me is that I at least look into what it costs to purchase a new cart. Maybe I could store my new golf cart in my golf cave. Then last year I checked into some used golf carts but just like used cars, prices were through the roof.
A simple Bing search for How Much Do New Golf Carts Cost as of 2/11/2023
Now this is good to see but I think I would go with a company who sells golf carts or at least can point you to dealers in your area. Enter GoRollick.
Let’s check out another website. GoRollick gives consumers the opportunity to research a possible purchase of a golf cart, shows the price and then will point you in the direction of local dealers. So if you would like to compare pricing on an E-Z-GO, Cushman, Club Car, etc… this is a good website to check out. You can also go through GoRollick to get offers from dealers if you should choose to sell a golf cart you own.
E-Z-GO Personal Golf Carts
Others are more than willing to put the price right on their website. Like the E-Z-GO Valor available in gas or electric at around $8500 at the time of this writing or on the other end of the spectrum, the E-Z-GO Express L6 Elite Lithium at about $18,500. In fact, E-Z-GO offers a number of choices of golf carts, including a few different Express models, the Freedom RXV at a little over $10,000. Check out the variety of gas and electric golf carts offered by E-Z-GO.
Yamaha
I think most people who are familiar with golf carts see a couple of brands on a regular basis at local golf courses being played. By me, Yamaha Golf Cars are at quite a few courses, including one where I regularly play. I’ve had a tough time finding pricing on Yamaha golf carts and to me if someone is not forthright in showing pricing I usually don’t go out and seek. Just a personal opinion.
King of Carts is similar to me. I like the look and variety of the golf carts. Just trying to find out pricing.
Club Car
By and far the golf cart I see at most golf courses is the Club Car. Sure, I understand that fleet operations or the ability of a company to sell or sometimes even rent multiple golf cars to a single golf course is what might drive some companies. But Club Car offers a variety of golf carts for personal use. I like the Onward model which is available in a 2, 4, or 6 seater. Starting at about $11,900 for the 2 seater with canopy and DCDrive, there are a multitude of colors and accessories so you can personalize this golf cart.
Want an Electric Golf Cart?
If you’ve ever been gassed out by an old golf cart, you might be thinking of going the electric route. If so, you might want to check out Five Star Golf Carts. They will literally deliver right to your driveway and have a new model for 2023 available in the Vortex. If you are looking for 30 miles of range and 30mph, this is the golf cart for you. Also, with Five Star Golf Carts you have options of a 2 seater, 4 seater, front facing 4 seater, and a 6 seater.
Star EV
I want to like a company called Star EV and between the Classic, Capella, and Sirius they have what I would consider to be sought after golf carts with great features and upgrades. What’s more a single charge will more than get you around the golf course and around town. You might want to check into the street legal versions for the latter. Alas I’m unable to find pricing with Star EV.
As an aside, I know what you’re thinking, maybe you like gas golf carts. The nice thing is with plenty of manufacturers, you have the choice of either a gas or electric model and for many (not all) they are similarly priced.
So what makes a golf cart street legal? Nahhhh. Not just a hopped up golf cart. How about a code of regulations? Yuck.
You’ll need a conforming windshield, VIN number, correct seat belts, rear visibility, a minimum sound requirement (huh) and oh yeah, you better go read those code of regulations above. Or you could just buy a street legal golf cart/vechicle from one of these manufacturers.
